Sunday Chat – Cactus, Leftovers and Wildlife from From My Carolina Home

Are you enjoying this Thanksgiving Weekend and beginning of the holiday season? I sure am! This weekend, my Thanksgiving cactus burst into bloom all over. I think these blooms are so interesting, with their shapes that make me think of little rockets.

The plant has blooms all over, most are red.

On the other side, there are a few yellow ones blooming, and more buds on the way on the fronds behind.

Several people asked about the difference between the Christmas and Thanksgiving cacti on the leaf shape. The spiky ones are Thanksgiving. But if you cannot decide, look at ...

Sunday Chat – Garden, Birds, Books & QOV from From My Carolina Home

Last week I showed you my Thanksgiving cactus, and it continued to put out more blooms. Several more golden yellow ones appeared, along with many more pink and red.

These flowers are just so interesting in their forms. Here’s a look at the underside.

I do marvel at the intensity of the colors.

Near the cactus, the amaryllis put up a new leaf. It should have gone dormant by now, but I think it will do so soon.

It turned chilly this week, and it was a good time to finish off the latest book. I had mixed feelings ...

Thanksgiving Decor for November with Quilts and Treasures from From My Carolina Home

Autumn decor gets more full with each passing month, and November brings out the turkeys to add to the fall leaves and pumpkins. I change out a few things for a Thanksgiving theme this month. I brought out the pilgrim figures I’ve had for many years now, a remembrance of my mother as they were hers. They are precious to me, and this year I put them with the mini quilt and a small turkey. My turkey candles go in a clear glass holders with harvest candle rings.

In the kitchen, my maple leaf runners are on the tables ...

Sunday Chat – Plants and Quilts from From My Carolina Home

My Thanksgiving Cactus is blooming its head off. I have never seen this plant so happy. There are more red blooms than pink or yellow, but I do have some of all. It came into bloom a few days ago, and there are more buds forming, so I think it will be in bloom for a couple of weeks.

The shape of the flower has always fascinated me. They are like little rockets.

Every year I share this plant’s flowers, someone will say that they have one but call it a Christmas Cactus. So, once again, here is a ...

Sunday Chat and Fall Color from From My Carolina Home

Fall is coming into some color now, and the turkeys are back. This bachelor flock of four are coming by frequently now. It is fun to see them appear, pecking around for tidbits and acorns. They are a bit shy, only one will come close enough to get a bite of whole grain bread thrown out onto the lawn.

A second flock of mixed male and females has nine turkeys in the group. They are still just a bit skittish about coming up for bits of whole grain bread, too, but a few will brave it. The rest hang back ...

Late November Garden from From My Carolina Home

There is always something going on in the garden, even in late November when the air is chilly.  We’ve had several dark and overcast days, lovely rainy days to stay inside to sew or stitch or read.  Then we get brilliantly sunny days that set the colors in the trees to light.  While most of the leaves are now gone on the deciduous trees, there are still some left to enjoy.  The birds are coming around a lot now too, so get ready for a long and picture heavy post.

Late November Garden at FromMyCarolinaHome.com

It has been a couple of weeks since I ...
